Il termine può essere interpretato sia come “oltraggiosamente irriverente nei confronti della divinità” o come “bestemmiatore”. In entrambi i casi si intende un’offesa alla “divinità” alias Putin. La parola trae origine dalla citazione di un evento storico e politico ripreso da Mattarella riguardante l’incontro di Hitler con Chamberlain, avvenuto nel lontano 15 settembre del 1938, dove fu richiesta l’annessione dei Sudeti al Terzo Reich, sotto minaccia di guerra e l’Europa cedette al ricatto per scongiurarla. Non fu così e il conflitto armato si scatenò lo stesso, qualche anno dopo, e divenne mondiale.
Mattarella vi intravide un’analogia con l’invasione della Russia in Ucraina e le minacce all’Europa di scatenare una guerra globale se avesse tentato di contrastare militarmente l’iniziativa.
La variabile di ieri, rispetto all’oggi, sta nel fatto che allora gli Usa non intendevano inizialmente difendere l’Europa da tale minaccia e lo fecero, qualche anno dopo, ab torto collo dopo l’aggressione armata giapponese a sua volta alleata con i tedeschi. Se invece fosse intervenuta subito probabilmente non vi sarebbe stata la Seconda guerra mondiale.
Oggi la Russia non nasconde la sua intenzione di riprendersi i territori che aveva lasciato dopo la caduta del muro di Berlino e l’Ucraina serve per saggiare la capacità di resistere alla sua espansione territoriale avendo come “protettore” gli Usa.
Il fatto nuovo è che ora con la presidenza Trump La comunità europea ha perso il suo storico alleato. La federazione russa, quindi, ha la strada aperta per le sue mire imperialiste e di farlo nella condizione più vantaggiosa essendo al cospetto di un occidente indeciso, impaurito, diviso. In questo contesto la voce di Mattarella è quello che gli antichi direbbero: Veritas odium parit, la verità genera odio.
Non dimentichiamo che sino all’ultimo minuto, pur avendo ammassato ingenti forze militari ai confini dell’Ucraina, i russi giurarono e spergiurarono che si trattava di normali manovre militari e non erano intenzionati ad invadere il vicino. Ed invece accadde l’esatto contrario.
A questo punto l’esercito russo può mettere in campo anche l’esercito Nord coreano per rinvigorire le proprie dotazioni offensive. La debole Europa ci ricorda una frase di Tito Livio: Dum Romae consulitur, Saguntum expugnatur. E la Roma di Livio è la Bruxelles di oggi.

Mattarella saw there an analogy with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and threats to Europe to unleash a global war if it tried to counter it militarily. The variable of yesterday, compared to today, lies in the fact that then the U.S. did not initially intend to defend Europe from such a threat and did so, a few years later, neck and neck after Japanese armed aggression in turn allied with the Germans. Had it instead intervened immediately there probably would not have been World War II. Today Russia makes no secret of its intention to take back the territories it left behind after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and Ukraine serves as a test of its ability to resist its territorial expansion by having the U.S. as its “protector.” The new fact is that now with the Trump presidency The European community has lost its historic ally. The Russian federation, therefore, has the way open for its imperialist aims and to do so in the most advantageous condition being in the presence of an indecisive, fearful, divided West.In this context Mattarella’s voice is what the ancients would say: Veritas odium parit, truth begets hate. Let us not forget that until the last minute, even though they had massed large military forces on the borders of Ukraine, the Russians swore and perjured themselves that these were normal military maneuvers and they were not intent on invading their neighbor. And instead the exact opposite happened. At this point the Russian military can also field the North Korean military to reinvigorate its offensive equipment. Weak Europe reminds us of a phrase from Livy: Dum Romae consulitur, Saguntum expugnatur. And Livy’s Rome is today’s Brussels.
