Timi Yuro, nome d’arte di Rosemarie Timotea Aurro, cantante statunitense di successo, nacque a Chicago il 4 agosto 1940 ed è morta a Las Vegas il 30 marzo 2004.
Nata da genitori italiani di Rocchetta a Volturno (Isernia), Rosemarie si esibisce giovanissima a Los Angeles nel ristorante dei suoi genitori (“At Alvolturno’s”), finché non sottoscrive un contratto discografico con la Liberty Records, esordendo con “Hurt” (1961) di Roy Hamilton, giunto al quarto posto della classifica americana di vendite (si tratta della celebre “A chi?”, portata al successo da Fausto Leali). Importante nella formazione musicale l’incontro sentimentale con Larry Bright, chitarrista di estrazione blues che ingaggiato da Elvis Presley, venne liquidato per gli eccessi alcolici.
Nel 1962 diventa “spalla” di Frank Sinatra nella tournée australiana. Dell’anno seguente il primo album, “Make the world go away”, genere country. Il brano “What’s a matter baby” rimane uno dei suoi più noti successi, prodotto da Phil Spector, ex compagno di coro.
Nel 1965 partecipa al Festival di Sanremo con due canzoni “E poi verrà l’autunno” e “Ti credo”. Tornerà nel 1968 con “Le solite cose” di Pino Donaggio. Durante la permanenza in Italia, farà un salto in Molise, accompagnata da Ricky Gianco, per conoscere la terra delle sue origini.
“The Amazing” è giudicato l’album migliore della cantante d’origine molisana, dove sono forti i riferimenti al jazz.
Con il matrimonio, nel 1969, di fatto chiude con il mondo dello spettacolo. Nel 1976
il gruppo dei Manhattans rilancia “Hurt” in versione disco-music e molti riscoprono la voce dell’italo-americana inserendola in alcuni remix di successo.
Poco più che quarantenne comincia a combattere con un tumore alle corde vocali.
Timi morirà nella sua casa di Las Vegas nel 2004.
Uno degli ultimi concerti, di cui ci sono tracce video, è in un locale gay negli anni Ottanta.
Uno dei suoi più grandi fans è stato Elvis Presley, il quale oltre a seguire i suoi concerti, ha inciso la sua personale versione di “Hurt” nel 1976.
